Princeton NJ Privatizes 911

Princeton, New Jersey has signed a two year contract, with the option to extend for three more years, with IXP Corporation. The contract will pay IXP just over $860,000 a year during the first two years. IXP is a private corporation offering 911 and dispatch services. Princeton is the fourth municipality to sign on joining Lawrence Township, New Jersey, Sandy Springs, Georgia, and Danbury, Connecticut. IXP also service the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority Police.

Princeton currently employs six dispatchers, despite being budgeted for ten, and will lay off all six.
