A Lawrence, Massachusetts 9-1-1 call taker is facing termination after she failed to properly offer assistance to Spanish speaking callers. The Lawrence Police uncovered the issue after a “routine and random” review of 9-1-1 calls. The calltaker, Dianne D’Iorio who has been with the Lawrence Police since 2007, told callers that she only spoke English and never offered translation services that were available. D’Iorio is also accused to have a history of being rude and disrespectful to callers, in some cases refusing to send officers to calls for help.
Editors Note: Calls made to 9-1-1 in Massachusetts all have translation services available free of charge to the cities and towns. This service applies only to 9-1-1 calls, and not to regular business line calls unless the department has made special arrangements.
