Five dispatchers were injured in three separate lightning strikes at the Salem County, New Jersey Sheriff’s communications center on June 23rd. Despite injuries ranging from a tingling sensation to confusion the dispatchers continued to work answering a huge increase in calls due to the storm. Officials have lauded the dispatchers for their professionalism and dedication to duty, working through injury in a time of high weather related calls. The group was transported to the hospital and later released when relief staff were able to arrive and relieve them.
