Massachusetts Representative Katherine Clark has introduced a bill aimed at toughening the federal penalties for SWATing incidents. In her press release Clark sites an incident when a 10 year old became a victim when a SWAT team was called to his home in a hoax. The FBI reportedly estimates 400 SWATing attacks a year, and a Boston Globe article sites 10 in Massachusetts but further relates that number could be higher due to the public records law.

Over the summer New York Senator Shumer introduced a similar law, however the bill was referred to committee and has not moved.
